Shark Tank India Season 2 – Marketing gimmick or Intellectual orgasm

Neha Dhupia made a statement 20 years back ‘only SRK or Sex sells’…we are in 2023 and no matter how much times have changed “SRK or Sex” still is cinema/OTT’s biggest bet. “Pathaan”- apparently “Main Hoon Na” on steroids but the king still gets whopping 57 crores on Day 1.

Being a hopeless romantic, I still love SRK to bits but somewhere need of this newly called “intellectual orgasm” has heightened ever since. We try and find it everywhere – movies, social media, OTT content, haven’t even spared the relationships.  Fact remains audience is not sold on just anything (6 or 8, just the packs don’t work), though A+ content is still in demand and most of the successful OTT series revolve around it for reasons best known.

Amidst this need for ‘real content’ with 3Rs – Relatability, Relevance and Rivet, the Tank with popular Sharks is certainly creating a buzz!

Prime time show which is being watched by audience across 3 generations and everyone is in awe – be it the innovative ideas/ relentless grit/ jugaad lovers/ risk takers/ visionaries/ business economics/ power of capital muscle and most importantly, power of technology!!  So much so that the rub off effect in everyday life can’t be ignored:

  • Latest pick-up line: Are you a bitcoin?  Bcoz am so so invested in you😍
  • Friends advice: Think Big and you can achieve anything!  If you want a valentine flower, plant the seed now
  • Mom’s comment: This is not my expertise, I can’t cook…. Am out
  • Appraisal season: I will stick to my rating.  Take it or leave it

And to top it up, the show is high on masala and fun quotient (glamour is still behind but catching up with Namita and Vinita adding their oomph to the show 😊) – for someone who is still processing and struggling to decide on eggs freezing, the concept of ‘freezing breast milk for magic memories’ was a bouncer!!  To add, being served a lick lolly saying “you are having second best thing to lick” – still reckoning if the target market should be lollies or foreplay experiments.

Top of the charts for us was ‘Coezy sleep’ – that one stop body cover to hug you while you sleep – dude the deep pressure therapy may work for infants, but you can also be sued by billion dollar safe sex industry if you promote sleeping in covers 🙄

If this is not enough and you are still pondering to watch it or not, we will give you a sneak peek into anecdotes which stood out for us:

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you know something is really beautiful and colorful when sharks have to pitch their value-add to the founder: ‘Paradyes’ stole the show and was indeed colour of the season! Everything was worthy – Yushika’s entry (young girl with bold colored hair and high confidence), clarity of thought, category, business fundamentals to the negotiation war.  Treat for Investors and M&A community.  Eager to see how well they paint the nation red, blue, green and more!
  • In the professional world full of manipulation, backstabbing, fabrication, we forget what Genuity looks like and what it can achieve – Ganesh Balakrishnan and Flatheads won our hearts that day!!! The pitch, motive and effort were so honest that not only sharks but everyone in that moment wanted to support and contribute.  And guess what, help comes in ways we can’t even imagine.  The campaign ‘Down but not out’ is kicking ass and Flatheads is soaring with orders.  Salute!💪
  • Kombucha:  When the gut is happy bcoz of American women founders who are ‘more Indian than most Indians’, my heart sings…ooh la lala…Kombucha is for sure creating a wave across high street cafes.  The show is more than securing the funding – it was heart warming to witness inclusivity for cross cultural identity, a special human to human connection and the ability to say ‘No’ to a non-attractive offer.  Very rightly put, ‘Good is the enemy of the best’, and important to know ‘when it’s not the best’
  • Haqdarshak – Business built for a ‘Cause’ and how! Haqdarshak and Aniket Doegar deserves standing ovation for the cause they believe in (to help under-privileged access Govt schemes), not an NGO but a business, execution with technology enabler that led to scale, and vision for all Indians to benefit out of this ‘saada haq, ethe rakh’.  Aniket, we are part of the fan club and wishing you all the success🙌
  • Avimee Herbal- 86 years and still experimenting, solid example of grit and child like curiosity to invent, reading books and introducing miracles of Ayurveda and passing on the tradition and legacy to new Genx. With such great unit economics, while you may not have bagged the deal “Nanaji”, you definitely have our respect and these herbs goes to my try list. May even recommend this to my next dates with receding hairlines 😊

Well, the TANK is clearly becoming more exciting every season and we are also amazed to see how short is mankind’s memory, while there was so much of roar around Ashneer Grover, there is no ‘missing factor’ on the show.  Amit Jain while promoting himself with “Maine 4 company banayi hai” is pulling off some really risky bets and is connecting with audience in his unique style ‘chaliye, aap apna unit economics batayien’.

Shark Tank is changing the game – not just for the founders but also for the audience….. call it motivation or FOMO, it has led to intellectually stimulating conversations/ huddles and indeed a better topic to gossip around these days than to judge Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani’s wedding.  Really?  Nooo, I can still talk about the ensemble and couture which Ambani women carried off beautifully or whether Radhika is truly Anant’s soulmate?😊 We will cover some of that in our next…until then!#atmospherestudio#avimeeherbal#birdsofpardyes#downbutnotout#flatheads#haqdarshak#instaquote#lickster#pathaan#sharktankindia#sharktankindiaseason2#socialimpact#startupsaylaaylinbloggerlifecreativewritingfuckologyofficialspillingbeansstartupswordsofwisdom
