Road to Self-LOVE

SELF LOVE- sounds familiar- looks like it’s the WORD in the AIR these days. A society which used to thrive on basic human self-doubts and insecurities has suddenly shifted gears and is now so focussed on teaching SELF LOVE.

So what is this SELF LOVE all about- does it mean that our foremost priority should be loving our own self ? Does it mean that we need to change the years of our existence which was based on the basic concept of interdependence of human beings, longing and thriving in a social set up along with one another?

Well, we don’t agree fully on the concept, we still think human being is a social animal who can’t just be self-sufficient and thus need OUTSIDE LOVE as much as from/for SELF. So, what’s the ideal? Let’s ponder some whimsical thoughts around this. Let us know if this resonates or we are completely going bonkers on this one..

• Starting self-love with loving your BODY. Accepting as is-the colour, the size, the shape all of it and taking care of it to utmost extent possible. Does it mean that we are shifting the focus of this whole beauty industry that we created in ages to eye for those perfect sizes, perfect curves and discovering perfect covers for body and skin to taking the best care of what we already have …. (Organic Neutrogena instead of Fair and lovely, or plus size modelling brands instead of just hot couture’s). But one aspect of this also means are we also creating this new bunch of Gen Z who are just HAPPY the way as they are and give a damn on taking the basic care in the name of BODY POSITIVITY (excess weight has some real consequences by the way).
• Moving on to defining great relationships in life where people LOVE you equally as you love them. We all thrive on happy and loving relationships and no doubts it brings the best out of us. But, does that mean to strive for this ideal we should let us burden ourselves with unrealistic expectations, meddle with the core of our existence? Is it worth it? When do we trade off from loving others to loving SELF more? Where is that fine line of balance between self-respect and ego.
• Bearing heartbreaks- casual/serious/toxic- any kinds. These are most difficult breaks to go through and the last thing you would want anyone to suffer from- but is this our lack of self -love that causes extreme sufferings in there? Should anyone ever have that capacity to drown us in the drain to the extent that we feel crippled to be back on feet? Love can be the most beautiful feeling but heartbreak doesn’t have to be the UGLIEST. But also, is it fair to completely sham outside LOVE just because we fear the pains and beat the bush around SELF love?
• Succeeding in professional careers- do you think great leaders are the ones who just love the ways of working they only have created? Or the ones who have been resilient enough to think beyond themselves and understand the changing needs and adapt well to them? Self- love is important to build empires but also a great leader comes from loving and inspiring people around.

Clearly none of the extremes are working to best- so maybe the ideal is BEST OF BOTH WORLDS and the game is called “ACT of BALANCING”. Seek love cos it’s the most beautiful dimension of life but love yourself too- so that everything adds on to beautiful nest you have already built within.

Asking a 10 year old on self love- the response as quoted was “Imagine just returning home tired and suddenly the spark of your own eyes take a glance on the freezing frappuccino at Starbucks, but you have no one to gel with, in that case you should enjoy your own company, accept that you are beautiful/handsome elegant and pleasant in every way possible.”

Great thought my little love but I also feel the need to tell our kids the need and beauty of having people to enjoy that frapucchino with (along with giggles and laughters ofcourse) still loving ourselves to the extent that any of the absence isn’t harming us beyond.
