DIWALI Parties:  Indeed the most exquisite part of the year

LIGHTS, GLAMOUR, COCKTAILS, GAMBLING, MUSIC, FOOD and everything else

(left to own experiences and imagination)

This blog is for everyone who has soaked in the spirit of this magnificent festival season in India (using the exquisite liquor or foodgasms right in the mouth). It is all about reminiscing the spectacular décor of flowers, scented candles and lights, women dressed in super sexy yet elegant outfits, men trying hard to match the glamour quotient, lip smacking barbeques and cheese platters, balcony/ outdoor settings with nip in the air, classic cocktails by talented mixologists, dancing heart out to the tunes of 90s remixes, card sessions taken as seriously as Casino bets with great company of friends and family😍 ………In nutshell, everything amazing happening around to create memories that will be cherished forever……..BUT there is always a ‘but’……. lets take a jibe at what is happening behind these picture perfect scenes!

  • Hosting pressure:  To do this year or defer to next…..finding a non conflicting date and making sure turnout is atleast 90 pc of the invitee list (it’s reputational pressure after all)……who all to include in Invite list and who to drop (this will define relations for the entire next year) and then the biggest challenge – how to create that ‘differentiating factor’ for your party (the after-talks is what remains at the end).  With hosts going overboard already – ‘taaron ki chhao’ at terrace, live singing bands, decoration with Aces and Jacks to create a casino setting, live food station for Burmese kadhi with kachori (am still figuring out the taste), fruit based kulfis from Chandni chowk, flower jewelry for guests and the list is long.   Am sure all this effort comes from a combination of inherent nature and passion for perfection, feeling of contentment by making people happy or something else ….well, whatever may be the reason, the guests had a gala time for sure!!!!
  • Outfit selection: I wish I could post some pictures of beauty and glamour witnessed this season…..seems like ethnic wear ‘with nothing ethnic about it’ was the theme…… its a sight to behold with glamorous women dressed in off-shoulder suits, string blouses, halter neck tops, sheer sarees, coords with crop tops raising the temperature high (with plunging neck lines and swooning back lines) and the effect of alcohol is certainly not helping men to take eyes off them……. Are men matching the outfit standards?  Well, they don’t need to…….we still go by age old saying – men can look good by just being a gentlemen (behave well and appreciate women😊) !
  • Liberties:  ‘Letting go’ is important especially during festive season and everyone must lose the uptight once in a while…..Combination of good company, chill in the weather, glamour oozing all around and liquor definitely helps and then one could see the ‘Real you’ (or rather ‘should’ see) – sensuous dance moves, flirtatious conversations, warm hugs that never harm 😉.  This season is best to release those pent up expressions, let go of year round worries, soak in the positivity of relationships and let the fun continue for the entire festive season which ends with the carols and jingle bells and new year barbeques!
  • Card nights: seems like folks have forgotten the famous saying ‘you win some and you lose some’……moolah has the power to intoxicate and once you are under the influence, instead of you playing the cards, the cards play you!  well, playing cards is both tradition and fun with all interesting variations and mind application (am still trying to figure out the probability factor in the shifting bust variation). While embodying the western poker chips, the idea is to still play in spirits and let Lakshmi roam freely across chairs until it takes over everything else and make the muflis out of you 🤐 …. So beware!
  • Gift recycling: Now hailing Indian tradition – you can’t go barehanded. The thought lingers since the day of invite- budget, taste, class (yours or theirs- depends ). Some people add additional element of utility in between (God how many years a person can survive without having all the items of utility- they have it all believe me🙄). Then starts the hunt- first from the last year’s residue and you end up either loving it or despising it too much – either ways not eligible to recycle. Then the hunt extends to some popular home furnishings (it’s a family festival after all). And you end up finding the 100th way of coloring a saucepan, or some teeny different flowers on bed sheets, or some more exotic candles and vases or cologne reinvented and repackaged to meet this year’s trend. And then these take rounds home to home- depending on how many parties you host or have been invited to.
  • Business that flourishes and never fails:   Liquor shop and Catering – while liquor is said to be an all round companion of happiness and sadness- this festive season it is perfectly blended with those red and green poker chips, chatting with friends and families with a glass in hand and letting go of everything in between. Yet again putting the pressure on hosts to have best in class, the variety and the crockery (flute/ basic/ coupe glass), how strong has to be the element of dooziness, and how about the virgins 😆 All this means nothing but long lines outside L1s with a list (and suddenly people across have to find friends in their contact lists who can source this from Haryana)

Then comes the food- the most important part- what goes well with the crowd, yet is class apart, is this a season for classic paneer tikka or do we go innovative by doing exquisite cheese platters and dips. This totally depends on relooking the guest list- again making judgments about their overall exposure in life, their fine taste in fusion food and then using your class to decide. Amidst all this- who flourishes- top caterers, food deliveries, Zomato and best of all home chefs.

There is so much more and am still not done……..in the nutshell, this part of year is all about going BIG – in terms of hosting, playing, dressing, drinking and most important of all- reestablishing the relationships, finding harmony in letting go, laughing over the wrong and right doings of year gone by and praying for peace and positivity all along.

Love you all and enjoy the festivities and may the power of Diwali lights, reignite the sparkle in you 😇…… Do share comments for angles and pieces you have experienced this festive season and we would love to give it a colour in our next blog with a quirk  ❤❤  Keep following this page for more gossips and chatters.
